We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Metallurgist to join us at our testing facility, Metaltest UK. The role will hold overall responsibility for laboratory operations. Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Ensuring that the services provided by the laboratory meet the requirements of BS EN ISO/IEC 17025 and customer requirements
  • Ensuring that Client confidentiality is maintained
  • Day to day management of laboratory personnel
  • Promoting the continuous improvement activities of the Laboratory
  • Ensuring personnel are trained and authorised to perform particular functions within the Laboratory i.e. contract review, sampling/ testing/calibration, issuing Test Reports and Certificates, giving opinions and interpretations, and operating specific types of equipment
  • Maintain the high level of Health and Safety for everyone within the premises
  • Conduct failure investigations, produce report, make recommendations
  • Oversee external audits
  • Performing laboratory tests in order to produce reliable and precise data to support scientific investigations
  • Carrying out routine tasks accurately and following strict methodologies to carry out analyses
  • Preparing specimens and samples
  • Specifying, maintaining and operating standard laboratory equipment, including review of calibration certificates
  • Ensuring the laboratory is well-stocked and resourced
  • Recording and sometimes interpreting results to present to senior colleagues
  • Computer literate and able to perform mathematical calculations for the preparation of graphs
  • Keeping up to date with technical developments, especially those which can save time and improve reliability
  • Manage the machine shop workload and scheduling
  • Review updates of controlling standards and ensuring laboratory personnel are trained in-line with any changes
  • Ad hoc duties as required

Person specification:

  • Metallurgy qualification (Chemistry, engineering or materials science also considered)
  • Laboratory management experience
  • Experience with metallurgical, mechanical and destructive testing, including failure analysis
  • Interpretation of BS EN ISO and ASTM/ASME standards
  • Close attention to detail

Salary: £30,000.00-£35,000.00 per year
